Recently, the offshore aquaculture platform solar-storage-diesel off-grid power supply project, for which HOMSUN Energy Storage New Energy Co., Ltd. provided the overall energy storage solution, is about to commence operation. Based on the actual on-site conditions, the project innovatively delivered a "highly integrated solar-storage-diesel off-grid all-in-one solution". It provides round-the-clock intelligent power guarantee for the platform's daily lighting, circulating water pumps, monitoring equipment, and living facilities, successfully setting a new benchmark for offshore off-grid energy application.

The Stringent Challenges of Offshore Off-Grid Power Supply

The offshore environment is complex and harsh. High humidity and salt spray pose significant challenges to equipment reliability. Limited maintenance space and inconvenient transportation demand systems that are extremely stable and simple to maintain. Simultaneously, project investment and long-term operational costs require careful calculation. Single diesel power supply or simple solar-storage combinations can no longer meet the comprehensive needs for stability, greenness, and economy.

The Highly Integrated Solar-Storage-Diesel Off-Grid Smart Microgrid

Facing these challenges, HOMSUN Energy Storage provided a tailored integrated solution. Its core is to build a complete, self-operated off-grid microgrid:

  1. Trinity, Seamless Synergy: The system deeply integrates 22.5kW offshore photovoltaic panels, a 241kWh air-cooled energy storage cabinet (HS-SP241-F), and a diesel generator. Photovoltaics serve as the primary power source, energy storage performs energy regulation and storage, and the diesel generator acts as an emergency backup. The three work in synergy through an intelligent system to ensure 7x24 hours of uninterrupted power supply.

  2. Highly Integrated, Not Simple Assembly: This is not a simple setup of "PV + storage cabinet + diesel generator". We provide an integrated off-grid power supply system. It internally integrates DCDC/MPPT modules, a Power Conversion System (PCS), an intelligent Energy Management System (EMS), and control logic. This achieves deep integration from power generation and storage to distribution, simplifying on-site deployment and enhancing system reliability.

  3. Intelligent Dispatch, the Smart Brain: The system's "smart core" – the HOMSUN EMS – plays the role of the chief dispatcher.

    • During ample sunlight, PV power is prioritized to directly supply the load, with surplus energy automatically charging the storage cabinet.

    • At night or on rainy days when PV output is insufficient, the EMS seamlessly switches to the energy storage discharge mode to ensure stable power supply.

    • Under extreme conditions, the diesel generator automatically starts to supplement power supply and automatically switches back once PV power recovers, maximizing the use of green energy. The entire process is unattended and can be monitored in real-time via a remote platform.

In the thermal management design of the energy storage system, we made precise decisions based on an in-depth analysis of this project's actual operating conditions:

  • Application Scenario-Oriented: The project places the energy storage cabinet inside an air-conditioned container, providing a first layer of stable external temperature environment for the equipment. Furthermore, this project has smooth power demand, with charge/discharge rates consistently below 0.5C, making battery heat generation controllable.

  • Internal Air-Cooling for the Cabinet: Through rigorous thermal design analysis, within the constant-temperature container environment and coupled with the forced air-cooling system inside the storage cabinet, it fully meets the heat dissipation requirements of the battery packs. This ensures stable system operation within a wide temperature range of -20°C to 50°C.

  • Optimal Comprehensive Benefit: This solution, while ensuring safety and performance, balances the needs for initial investment cost and long-term operational convenience on the offshore platform. It avoids potential maintenance challenges complex systems might bring in special environments, making it a practical choice highly adapted to this scenario.

  • The HOMSUN HS-SP241-F energy storage cabinet body boasts an IP21 protection rating (designable per scenario requirements) and offers C3-C5 grade anti-corrosion options, effectively resisting offshore moisture.

  • Equipped with temperature, smoke, and combustible gas detectors along with a perfluorohexanone fire extinguishing system, it builds a dual fire protection barrier of active warning and rapid suppression.

  • The BMS strictly adheres to safety standards such as UL60730 and GB/T34131-2017. It monitors battery voltage and temperature at a millisecond level, issuing immediate warnings upon detecting abnormalities to ensure stable and safe cell operation.
